DE: Award for test to measure forces needed to open packs

26 May 2015

Each year the German Institute for Standardization DIN awards the Innovation Prize to projects exemplifying successful innovative standards projects. This year one of the three prizes was awarded to Andrea Liebmann and Ina Schreib. Their work at Fraunhofer covered the objective determination of the strength needed to open peelable packaging. Not only the elderly have problems opening peelable packages. Objective information on the opening behaviour of packaging systems is necessary in order to design and manufacture consumer-friendly packaging. The standard DIN 55409 lays down an objective test method for determining opening forces for peelable packaging (Press Release DIN).
