AU: Queensland + NSW investigate container deposit scheme

25 June 2015

The Queensland Government will work with New South Wales to investigate a container deposit scheme and possible restrictions on single-use plastic bags. South Australia, Northern Territory, the ACT and Tasmania have all banned the use of single-use plastic bags.
The minister for Environment and Heritage Protection said the increasing amount of plastic finding its way into the environment was concerning, and plastic litter entering waterways had the potential to cause significant impacts on marine life. The department has received a considerable amount of correspondence calling for the introduction of a container deposit scheme (Media Statement Queensland Government, 20 May 2015).
