SAGE PHARMA at CPHI2026: assessing the impact of personalised medicine on packaging and engineering
The days when everyone suffered from the same illness are behind us. At present, 1 in 17 people worldwide live with a rare disease. With the rise of personalised medicine, this number is almost certain to increase even further.
What does this unstoppable trend mean for the packaging of medicines and especially for the concept of the Unit Dose? This is the specific dose of the medicine prescribed for the patient.
A project is currently underway in Europe in which around two hundred fully individualised tablets are produced daily using 3D printing, for a diversity of young patients.
Also, this summer, a groundbreaking NVC research report was published[1] on personalised medication for the packaging of medicines in blister packs.
