From infant nutrition to elderly nutrition: the role of SAGE packaging design

SAGE is the movement towards a Sustainably AGEing society worldwide. NVC Packaging Centre is committed to the development of packaging in support of SAGE.

Packaging is the temporary integration of an external function and a product to enable the use of the product. Every second, 320,000 products are packaged for the world's population. The food sector accounts for approximately two-thirds of all packaging worldwide, or around 200,000 products every second. SAGE FOOD packaging can, must, and will deliver significant benefits for the sustainably ageing society of tomorrow.

The first NVC SAGE FOOD Workshop took place on 25 November 2025. The NVC Insights Report of this meeting can be requested from the NVC association office.

The workshop on 12 November 12026, will focus on the future requirements for packaging (and its contents) for the two extremes in human life: baby food and food for the elderly.
