Making food even safer by referencing chemical substances in contact with food

10 September 2014

To further improve food safety, the Belgian Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP) has created a database of approximately 10 000 known substances likely to come into contact with food.
This inventory also provides information about their presence in certain materials, such as assessments, restrictions and specifications. The database was put together by compiling the information contained in various national laws, the resolutions of the Council of Europe, and the regulations and directives of the European Commission. It is available since late May 2014 via an internet interface (Website Belgian Scientific Institute of Public Health, 7 July 2014).
