10 October 2013

The Government of Scotland has released an action plan to reduce waste and create a more efficient and circular economy, setting the 2025 goals of reducing waste generation by 15%. The plan has 6 overall goals, one of which is improving extended producer responsibility (EPR) and reducing the environmental impacts of packaging. Twenty actions are proposed to help achieve these goals including the requirement for retailers to charge for carrier bags beginning in October 2014 (Recycling Laws International, 4 October 2013).
