NVC probes into the future at 25th anniversary of European legislation packaging and environment at FachPack 2019

On Tuesday 24 September 2019, NVC director Michael Nieuwesteeg will address the PackBox Forum at packaging exhibition FachPack 2019 (Neuremberg, Germany) as Europe will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste three months later. The title of his presentation: Celebrating the 25th anniversary of EU legislation in packaging and environment: no time left to waste?

At the age of 24 (in the year 2018), Europe decided to do an update on the original Directive. Directive (EU) 2018/852 amends Directive 94/62/EC and contains updated measures designed a) to prevent the production of packaging waste, and b) to promote the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovering of packaging waste, instead of its final disposal, thus contributing to the transition towards a circular economy.

The NVC-presentation analyses where the original Directive has been successful and where less so. Additionally, the NVC PUMA Project will be referenced, striving to make an end to packaging as an environmental issue worldwide. Finally we will derive key effects of the 2018 amendments on the packaging business community in Europe and abroad.
