During this 4-day course you will get an excellent insight into the importance of packaging for successful e-commerce business. The course covers such topics as logistics, materials handling, product damage prevention, returned goods facilitation, brand image consistency, managing labelling and integrating sustainability in packaging choices.
After completing this course you will be able to improve your packaging strategies: lower packaging costs, with satisfied web clients and a responsible approach to environmental issues.

This four-day course will take place at the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre in Gouda, the Netherlands and at company locations. The course language is Dutch.

The course is mainly intended for professionals in purchasing, logistics, designers and product developers.

 

Programme

Day 1: Introduction e-commerce and packaging

  • The history of retail, self-service shops and modern logistics
  • Definition of packaging, market players, division of roles, vulnerabilities and functionalities,  supply chain insights
  • Most commonly used packaging materials and their key characteristics
  • Visit a packaging line in a production facility

Day 2: Packaging design and brand experience

  • Packaging design and store brands
  • Consistency of packaging appearance and other expressions (website, on-line advertising)  
  • Interaction between packaging and website
  • Visit a packaging design agency and e-commerce case study

Day 3: Materials handling and smart logistics

  • Distribution centres: the difference between B2B and B2C distribution
  • Transport and logistics packaging (boxes, crates, pallets, trays), tools, void filling material, on-demand packaging
  • Coding and identification of shipments and individually packed products
  • Returnable transport packaging and return logistics
  • Visit a web retail logistic service provider

Day 4: Sustainability in e-commerce and packaging: case study 

  • Social and economical trends and sustainable development in packaging
  • Sustainability aspects of e-commerce in relation to packaging
  • Specific application of sustainability to packaging for e-commerce
  • Visit a web shop and complete improvement of e-commerce assignment

His interesting presentations about shopping behaviour, retail strategy and e-commerce brought him to over 25 countries in 4 continents. Prof. Van Ossel mainly focuses on how people shop. With twenty years of experience he has developed unsurpassed insight in the entire purchasing process. Earlier his attention went out to the importance of buying decisions on the shop floor. Nowadays he mainly studies how the Internet influences our shopping behaviour.
