Labeling for added sugar more helpful than confusing

20 November 2014

Research published in Obesity finds that consumers believe that information about added sugars on Nutrition Facts food labels will be more helpful than confusing. The study found most adults (63%) believe including added sugars labeling will be helpful and relatively few (18%) believe it will be confusing. People who believe it will be helpful give wanting to know, health, and concerns about sugars as their primary reasons. Those who say it will be confusing give either not knowing or not caring about added sugars as their primary reasons.
The FDA proposal to require this information has attracted 287,874 public comments and intense opposition (News release ConscienHealth, 18 November 2014).
