Openability of packaging generates great public interest

02 May 2016

A full-page article in Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD), and its associated regional newspapers, about the problems related to the opening of packaging has generated great public interest. An interview with Professor Roland ten Klooster about the easy-open closure for HAK vegetables, that won Packaging Innovation Contest De Gouden Noot in 2012, formed the central part of the article.
This and other innovations show how much can still be improved around this so-called packaging paradox: first the pack needs to protect the product as well as possible during its journey to the consumer, but then the pack needs to be easily opened by that same consumer at the point-of-consumption.
