NL: VWS positive about barcodes on primary medicine pack

Capgemini Consulting has published the report ’Barcoding on the primary pack of medicines in hospitals; a cost-benefit analysis’ which shows that using electronic registration for the administration of medicines considerably reduces the risk of medicine related health damage. The social benefits of having less patients with health related damage and the decrease in health costs were calculated by Capgemini Consulting to have a value of 21.4 million euros per year.
This is the first time a report was published that gives a global insight into the costs and benefits of introducing barcodes on the primary packs of medicines in hospitals (Press release GS1, 6 February 2017).
