Over 600 printers and suppliers were surveyed for the 9th drupa Global Trends Report (summary, 1.68 MB) that was published in November 2023. The recently published drupa Print Horizons Report (summary, 812 kB) takes a closer look at the six key topics that the survey participants chose as top priority to be addressed in the next 12 months:

More German food processing and packaging machinery exported in 2023
VDMA reports that German manufacturers of food processing and packaging machinery achieved a nominal export growth of 8.6% in 2023, reaching a record value of €9.85 billion. More statistics can be found here (100 kB).

Global biobased polymer market 2023
According to a new nova report, the total production volume of bio‑based polymers was 4.4 million tonnes in 2023, which is 1% of the total production volume of fossil‑based polymers. The CAGR of bio-based polymers is, with 17%, significantly higher than the overall growth of the polymer market (2–3%) – this is expected to continue until 2028. Asia, the leading continent in 2023, has the largest bio‑based production capacity in the world with 55%, with the largest capacities for PLA and PA. Consumer trends in alcoholic beverages
Circana has released new insights on trends in alcoholic beverages. Gen Z consumers aged 21-26 are driving innovation in flavour profiles, packaging, and product formats. They seek variety, and interesting and convenient packaging. You can download the insights after filling in your details.

The importance of environmentally friendly food packaging
The Sustainable Packaging 2024 study, conducted by DLG in collaboration with Münster University of Applied Sciences, aims to gain insight into the importance and implementation of environmentally friendly food packaging. The results of the consumer survey and company survey conducted for this purpose are summarised in three publications: the consumer's perspective, the role of labelling and claims, and company strategies.

Sustainability labels
In 2023, 25% of the turnover of food in Dutch supermarkets was achieved by products with an independent sustainability label. This is according to the latest figures from Circana’s sustainability label report (in Dutch, 1.29 MB).

Prices for plastics
Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
