The next 50 years of work
To build an understanding of what the next five decades may hold in store for workers, consultancy BCG engaged with more than 150 futurists through panel discussions and opinion surveys. Contrary to popular fears that the future will offer fewer work opportunities for people, most experts anticipate that rewarding work options will be plentiful.

New exoskeleton control mechanism helps reducing spinal load
Using a supportive device, called an exoskeleton, can help reducing the load on your back during heavy lifting tasks. Movement scientist Ali Tabasi of VU Amsterdam has developed a new way to control this device, ensuring it better meets each user's needs, enhancing comfort and effectiveness. Providing tailor-made assistive support in a practical way that fits into the workplace is made feasible.

Humanoid robots have potential to fully automate warehouse processes
Gartner predicts that by 2027, 10% of new intralogistics smart robots sold will be next-generation humanoid working robots. Humanoid robots differ from previous generations of smart robots and will address some labour shortage challenges in supply chain intensive industries.

Manufacturing employment in the USA has surpassed pre-pandemic levels and stands close to 13 million as of January 2024. As the industry grows, manufacturers are actively investing in attracting and retaining employees, drawing on innovation and an ecosystem approach to help improve the worker experience. The way these actions are implemented are analysed in a new report (3.57 MB) by the Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte.
